A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.
We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from New York Times bestselling author, National Book Award finalist, and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
My review: Firstly Don’t Read the Reviews! Which is a bit ironic as I am writing a review to encourage people to read this book. Hmmm! Firstly this is a total marmite book (I can say that after reading the book and reading the reviews) – some people will hate it and some will love it. Obviously because I am featuring this in my website I did love it.
There isn’t much I can say without giving any spoilers – however I read this book in one sitting – it’s a story about a truly dysfunctional family told through the voice of Cadence a teenage girl who spends her summers with her family on their private island every year. Ahhh… I can’t say anymore – and when you read it you will understand why. Fascinating, sad, thought-provoking and will stay in my thoughts for quite a while.
About the Author: E. Lockhart is the author of Genuine Fraud, We Were Liars, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, The Boyfriend List and several other novels.
