I’m not sure what it says about me but I absolutely love books about psychopaths and if they are female – all the better, so when I heard about this book and read the blurb it appealed to my darker side.
Never Saw Me Coming is the story of Chloe Sevre, a pretty and bubbly freshman who has just started University. She’s excited about making new friends, fitting in with the right crowd, going to as many parties as possible and killing Will Bachman! What sets Chloe aside from her fellow students is that she is a real fully diagnosed psychopath and is taking part in a secret clinical study alongside 6 other psychopaths run by a renowed psychologist in the University.
These seven student psychopaths are not supposed to meet each other or interact but when two of the group are murdered within the first few weeks of term, Chloe tracks down the remaining group in an attempt to stop the killer so she can continue her own personal deadly agenda.
As pyschopaths have a tendancy to lie, have an inability to show remose or empathy and unable to distinguish between right and wrong, it was highly amusing to watch Chloe try to build up friendships and relationships with the rest of group and their ability not to trust each other resulted in some entertaining but inappropriate circumstances.
This is a fun and entertaining book with a loveable main character and whilst I don’t agree with murdering your classmates, when you find out more about Chloe’s past and why she wants to kill Will, you have even more sympathy towards her.
Never Saw Me Coming is the debut novel by Vera Kurian and if you like your books full of gruesome murders, some very unreliable narrators and an original storyline then I think you will enjoy this book.
