A Quickie with Cass Green

Tell me about your latest book?

It’s called IN A COTTAGE IN A WOOD and it’s came out in September. It’s the story of a young woman called Neve, who meets a stranger on Waterloo Bridge in the middle of the night just before Christmas. This stranger ends up giving her a gift that plunges her into danger and will change her life forever.

If someone was to write your life story what would the title be?

It only takes one.

This is the phrase I had written above my desk when my book THE WOMAN NEXT DOOR  was out on submission. I started out writing YA books and my debut, DARK RIDE, was rejected more than 30 times before being picked up on the very last throw of the dice. It went on to win two awards after that. I knew that I had to be persistent to succeed in my new writing direction.

What’s the strangest fan question or request you’ve received?

(sorry, never really received anything that odd….yet!)

If you could co-write with anyone in the world (alive or dead) who would it be?

Hmm…that’s a double-edged sword, because writing with my heroes (Sarah Waters, Donna Tartt, Gillian Flynn) might be very intimidating! Still, I’d hope to learn lots so I’m going to go with Gillian Flynn because I write thrillers and she is so brilliantly skilful at creating suspense. I’d hope that some sort of weird osmosis would happen and a little of her talent might rub off!

Tell me something nobody else knows about you (yet!).

My latest character is more like me than any other person I’ve created. I’ll let readers decide whether this is something I should be admitting to!

Finally please recommend 3 books that you have recently read and tell me why you’ve chosen these.

STILLHOUSE LAKE by Rachel Caine. I was gripped by this story of a woman trying to make a new life after her husband is found to be a serial killer.

DO NOT BECOME ALARMED by Maile Meloy is about three families on a cruise around South America that goes horribly wrong. I barely paused for air reading this book.

UNDER THE SUN by Lottie Moggach. I’d loved her debut novel, KISS ME FIRST, and this story set among the ex-pat community in Spain didn’t disappoint. A beautifully written literary thriller.
